AFSP: Out of the Darkness Community Walk 2022

This past weekend I had the pleasure of participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Community Walk. The Out of the Darkness event is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support for all affected by suicide. Numerous families were there to walk for the loved ones they’ve lost, while others were there to walk for themselves and those suffering from various mental health illnesses. Overall, the event was fun, and I was happy my mother and a close family friend were there to support me. It was my second time walking in the event, and I look forward to walking again next year. I encourage all to look into their local AFSP state chapter to participate when the event is in your community. It’ll help you realize that you are not alone, you are beyond loved by many, and you matter!

This week’s first Featured Hoot happens to be one of my favorites! SJ Apothecary, a new and upcoming candle business that I’m beyond obsessed with. Coming out of Newport News, Virginia the candles are handcrafted with all natural soy wax. I’m so glad I was able to be apart of the testing trial because they all smell amazing. The small black-owned business officially launches on my birthday, June 27th and I will be the first one with all scents offered! Since the business is still growing a website is currently under construction (I’ll update upon completion). Until then, I encourage all candle lovers to order and do so quickly because they will sellout. Thank me later!

This week’s Featured Hoot is dedicated to one of my favorite homemade bakers from back home in Newport News, Virginia, Just Like Honi Creations.

From the moment I tried a cake for the first time, I instantly fell in love! The small black-owned business offers a variety of sweets and small catering services. Some sweets included are custom cakes (and I mean custom); cupcakes; cake pops; cake jars; chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, cookies, rice Krispy treats; and much more. The small catering services include birthday parties, baby showers; weddings; couples dinner, etc.

The creations taste incredible, and the presentation is always flawless! I will say, although the cakes are sweet and moist- the homemade icing will forever be my favorite part.

Sending a huge shoutout to my Dad on his latest accomplishments! He has done it once again with another comic book launching soon. The best part about this is seeing his childhood dreams come true! His ambition, patience, dedication, support, and extremely creative vision all played a part in this new comic book movement. The comic book is currently in its Kickstarter stage and will be officially launching sometime in July (I’ll keep you all posted).
