National Develop Alternative Vices Day is all about ridding yourself of your heavily bad and unhealthy habits. Those habits include but are not limited to excessively drinking coffee or alcohol, chain-smoking, consuming drugs, over-eating, gambling, and overindulging on television, phone, or social media use. Sure, there are plenty of other examples, but these tend to be the most obvious. Alleviating yourself from these habits and replacing them with healthier activities is the best way to observe this day. Challenging yourself to let go of these weaknesses for at least one day is ideal. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to change these habits for a lifetime and enhance your lifestyle and overall mental health in the long run.
The least you can do is give it a try and see how that works out for you. If you consume a lot of coffee, unhealthy food, alcohol, or drugs, replace them with plenty of water and healthy fruits/foods. Pick up a good book or write down your deepest thoughts in a journal if you need a break from social media, your phone, or the television. Take a quick walk when you feel the urge to want to smoke. Spend some extra time with your family and friends. Indulge in your favorite hobby or try to discover a new one that won’t involve a negative impact on your life. Long story short- all bad habits have healthier and more productive alternatives, give them a try. For more ideas on positive alternatives check out the Positive Coping Skills blog post. Best of luck to you Hooters, as always, I’m rooting for you to be the best YOU! Enjoy your new clean habits and remember to “Live a Little” while doing so.
Much Love Hooters,
